About My Brand
What’s in the name?
As a marketer in a previous life, I get asked where the idea for Camelias came from. After all, I had looked at branding and names and imagery for so many other businesses, so how did I approach this process for my own?
Firstly, I ventured into finding a name that was personal to me. Could I find one word that linked to me and important features in my life that unified a strong symbolic image?
The answer lay in my love of Scrabble and word scrambling. I had this slightly bizarre idea to merge the letters of mine and my son’s and daughter’s first names – Emma, Isaac and Clara. This was obviously a bonkers notion as finding a 14 letter word that made any sense was very unlikely, let alone to match an image to it. So, instead, I set about choosing letters from each name and so, using letters from each of our names merged together, Camelias was born.
Emma gets three hits with the ‘e’, ‘m’ and ‘a’.
Isaac with the ‘I’, ‘s’ and both ‘a’s
Clara with the ‘c’, ‘l’ and both ‘a’s.
However, the influence on this as the final name, was actually due to a second source of inspiration.
As a florist, I studied in depth the symbology of flowers and the meaning of Camelias had always struck a chord with me, so you can imagine my giddiness when word scrambling met symbolism!
The Camelia is a hardy plant, yet evokes such delicate imagery. In mythology, the flower (can be spelled with one or two ‘l’s) is known for its beauty and resilience and symbolises love, affection, faithfulness, longevity and devotion. It represents unity in its strongest sense. This makes the word and image the perfect choice for a celebrations business incorporating both meaningful ceremonies and beautiful floral design.
As this name settled in my mind, I took a spring walk and found this amazing camelias bush full of blooms in my favourite colour of bright pink-red coral, and that was the name and logo colour decided!
It was the perfect name, colour and brand to unify celebrating relationships, which is at the heart of everything I do.
