How do we choose a celebrant?
As with any element of a wedding or other celebration, you shop around! You wouldn’t choose the first venue you saw, it’s the same with who you choose to deliver your special ceremony. All good celebrants will be able to design a wonderful ceremony, as that’s their expertise. However, sometimes there’s more to it than that. Sometimes it’s something as simple as a ‘click’. You know what it’s like when you meet someone you and you just know you are going to get on like a house on fire? Well, hopefully fires aside, that is how it should be when finding the right celebrant.
After all, this is one of the most important days of your lives, you need to know it is in the best hands. By speaking to a couple of celebrants, you will instantly know if they are right for you, both of you. They may even inspire how you design your day, thus being an integral part of the whole shebang!
Practical elements also come into play. Would you prefer a male celebrant or a female? Would you prefer young and funky or mature and wise? Many elements will determine this from the venue, the theme, the ceremony style, the guest demographic. There is nothing wrong with wanting someone specific, but I still believe it comes largely down to ‘the click’! 😊
Every celebrant will have unique skills that you will connect with, or not. For example, my skills are unique to my life experiences that may, or may not, resonate with you. I am a lady of a certain age, who is a mum to two neurodiverse teens, who just loves writing life and love stories and messing around in nature and creating beautiful flower designs!
You will find a fit. Do your research, look for recommendations and then speak to two or three celebrants. Prices will vary but they shouldn’t be too different, so in the end, it will come down to who you feel fits you as a couple and your celebration.
